Walk/Run for AnaBella 2021

It has been a year since I had to cancel the first ‘Walk for AnaBella’ event on the Camino de Santiago and what a year for the world it has been!

As we are slowly peeping our heads up after being in lockdown for such a long time I have set myself a new challenge which I hope (all we can do these days is hope) to embark on from the 19th of May marking 3 years to the day when AnaBella died aged 0 years 28 days.

I am also raising the bar: instead of attempting 500 miles in 28 days I am going to attempt 734 miles in 28 days by running a marathon a day for 28 days, along the length of the South West Path and up to my home town in Frome.

I will be doing this unsurpervised whilst carrying all of my equipment on my back.

Why am I doing this? There are a number of reasons. Sometimes I just feel like I need to do something crazy to stop myself going crazy. Captain Tom really raised the bar when it comes to charity events and I felt like my original challenge was no longer worthy of the money I have already raised and the extra money I hope to raise during the event.

As before I’m going to film a vlog during the event sharing my story and experience. Through my journey I hope to raise awareness of baby loss and miscarriage from a fathers perspective.

Thinking about it I think the reason I am actualiy doing this is because it helps me feel like I’m doing something for my daughter, and I want that something to be big. During AnaBellas time on earth all I could do for her was read books, pray and cuddle her incubator. I couldn’t even really make her comfortable as I was restricted by the incubator and equipment. Most importantly I couldnt keep her safe, which as a father hurts the most. I really want to do things for her and this run will represent one of those things.

On another note we’ve just had Easter, and whilst I consider myself Christian and I know its not the point, the thought of celebrating someone elses child coming back to life really pisses me off and makes me ask “why not mine”.

Thank you for your continued support, I will keep you all updated on the training and eventually the journey.

Stay safe Xx
